Music lovers have been treated to a fantastic year in 2023 with some amazing releases. Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift have both delighted fans with their new albums “Endless Summer Vacation” and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” respectively. Adding to this musical feast, Miley Cyrus has gifted us with a brand new song called “Used To Be Young,” along with an exciting TikTok series. The series is inspired by her new song, in which Miley will take us on a journey from her birth year in 1992 until 2023, covering thirty years of her life. In the first video, Miley casually lounges on a couch with an iPad in hand and shares her excitement about the series. She remarks that she has nowhere to go, just like us. One of the most intriguing moments in the series would be when Miley reveals how she landed the role of Hannah Montana – a role that was almost given to someone else.
When I was a child, I loved to watch Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel. Despite some plot holes like how Miley could go unrecognized with just a wig, the show was relatable and tackled real-life issues that resonated with viewers. Miley’s struggles with illness, loss of a parent, and friendship problems made it easy to feel like she was a friend by the end of the series. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the lead role, but in Miley’s recent TikTok video, she revealed that she originally auditioned for the part of Hannah’s best friend, Lilly. However, the studio asked her to submit an audition tape for the title role under the name Chloe. Miley was too young and small at the time to blend in with the already-selected cast and didn’t make the cut. But after about a year, the studio gave her another chance, and she returned to LA to prove that she had grown up enough for the role.
Hannah Montana was a highly successful show on Disney Channel with a huge fan base. However, despite her character’s fame, Miley Cyrus did not receive the same level of admiration in her real life. In a TikTok video, Miley explained that her 2007 album Meet Miley Cyrus aimed to help people understand that she was the voice behind Hannah. Unfortunately, this did not bridge the gap between her two personas. Miley has spoken openly about how damaging it was to feel like people cared more about Hannah than her. The concept of Hannah Montana is that being in character makes you more valuable to people around you. Miley claims that this idea was drilled into her head, leading her to believe that no one would care about her if she wasn’t Hannah Montana.
